Happy Monday! We had a very happy
Sunday! The last of the 160+ Colorado
Springs hoarding kitties, Elliott and Dandi went home.
I can’t help wishing we could have kept
all 23 that we helped. But that wouldn’t have been fair to these kitties as they
were healthy, sweet and young. I will say again they had a good momma; she just
let things get out of control. All these kitties went in pairs! They had only
known life with each other so it was a shame to hear the other groups that
helped rescue them didn’t have this same policy. Thank you to all of you at
Almost Home that saw this need and appreciated it. Patience is a virtue!
An adorable little five-week-old Snowshoe Siamese kitten was transferred to us from another group because she has
tested FIV+ (feline aids). Most of the adult feral cats in her colony were euthanized.
She has to be confined without other kittens to play with. I’m not trying to
make us sad but instead I want this to be a reminder about how important it is
to keep our kitties inside. Although most kitties can live a long life with
feline aids, it is a contagious virus. Kitties with this virus should be homed
with only FIV+ kitties. We will test her again when she is several months old
hoping she will test negative. If not, we will have to try extra hard to find
her a forever home. She’s is pretty darn cute so maybe it won’t take too long!

This Wednesday, September 25, at 7 p.m., I am going to a showing of a documentary called “The Paw Project” at the Sie Film Center in Denver. This educational film is directed by Jennifer Conrad, DVM. “It is an inspiring David and Goliath story of a grassroots movement to protect felines, both large and small, from the cruelty of declawing, and how the movement has prevailed, despite the efforts of the well-funded professional veterinary associations. These are animals we love, and whom we share our homes. Why aren't we being told the truth about what the declawing procedures involve?” You can see the original trailer of the documentary, ticket information and location of the Sie Film Center at
Two little puppies were
brought to us after being found in a storm drain down the street from us, next to Toys
R Us. It does happen, we get the other revered species and it is always a
treat! We love all the critters here at Almost Home.
I am truly grateful for
those of you that are interested in Wyatt’s outcome. He is a remarkable little
guy that is one of the lucky ones to have this fan base. So many kitties come
to us needing intensive care. It’s great that Wyatt has become somewhat of a
poster kitty for foreclosure cats.
Wyatt is ready for a new
adventure!! He is being transferred to the rescue to continue his recovery. His
confinement has helped him learn to eat again and gain the strength he has so
far. To further develop his muscle recovery, he will start physical therapy at
the rescue. This will also help in his mental and emotional recovery. He will
meet new human friends, new kitty friends, and be eased into his new feline friendly home. He has
a few more weeks before he sees the eye doctor. A huge THANK YOU to all his caregivers for
helping us achieve our goals for Wyatt. And we could not have done this without the donors; your
donations have made this all possible. THANK YOU!!
Yeah!!! Rhythm, Merle, Daryl,
Merie, Serina, and Claire went home! We did eight spay and neuters this week, including
little Pumpkin, the kitten that was stuck in the tree. He has the best loving,
playful personality. He needs a good home now, as do the 30 plus kittens at
Almost Home. Anyone thinking about adding to your family come on in, I’m sure
we have a kitty for you!
I previewed the Almost Home
Adoptions, 2014 Kitten Calendar! It’s amazing again! Get ready to get yours and
tell all your friends and family it’s almost here! I’ll let you know as soon as
we get them!
Kindness to Critters Always,
Kathleen
