As many of you know by now, Tuesday afternoon someone brought in a male kitty that had been in a house for 1- 2 months with no evidence of food or water. It was a cleaning crew that found him in a terribly critical way.

Upon his admission, this is what we found:
  • Unaltered adult, 3-5 years old
  • Weight: 5.7
  • Extremely emaciated
  • Temperature: 95.7 (should be 102)
  • Very weak and lethargic
  • Extremely dehydrated
  • Infected sunken eye
  • Infested with fleas
Tanessa and I named him Wyatt (meaning brave warrior). This is day three of his treatment for recovery. I like to stay positive in these situations but I have to be honest, it is still too early to tell if he will make it. We are working with the vets to have the best treatment plan. I am personally giving him all of his support care. Doing this, I know he is getting the around-the-clock care that he so desperately needs if he has any chance to survive.

Part of the plan includes him getting a small amount of Karo syrup every hour, feeding him small amounts of a/d wet food several times a day, fluids, and antibiotics. He was treated for fleas and he had a negative test for FeLV and FIV.  I have shaved several mats off him, trying to make him comfortable. He is so thin it is just flesh on bone. Can you imagine how he must feel? It is painful for him to be touched. There isn't any muscle or fat on his body. His eye will need to be removed when he is well enough for surgery.

All this makes me very, very sad. This is something that could have been avoided. Many of you have asked if we are going to make the person who did this to him be responsible for their actions. If this is reported, Wyatt would end up in the care of animal control. The county must have him in their custody to build a case.  Wyatt wouldn't get the care he needs and would probably be killed and proving something like this is not that easy. How do I know this? This is not the first time I have dealt with animal abuse and I actually learned the hard way when they tried to take a kitty from me.

So is it worth it? Absolutely not!! Wyatt is safe now and I am not going to take a chance of losing him to the court system.  I have promised him a life of love. I hope you understand and trust me. Please keep saying prayers for him.

Many, many thanks for donating!  You are a big part of this rescue!

Several of these donations were in honor of Wyatt. At triple thank you for contributing to his fund. There were some donations of food the past few days and unfortunately, I do not have the names of those who donated. Sorry! We use around 80 cans of wet food every day. Your donation will help feed these kitties at Almost Home.

We had several intakes Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Two bottle babies, three 7-week old kittens, a mom and three 7-week old kittens, and a mom with 3 newborns. The mom with the newborns were found crying at 4 a.m.. She had been attacked by an animal, probably a coyote. I will update her and her injuries in the next blog. She also needs our prayers.

I saw our Jenny found a new spot to hang out. She is the beautiful long-haired calico that is in the lobby. She has decided the tall book shelf is hers. She has always stayed on the right side of the lobby. I don’t know why she moved but it was so cute seeing her playing and nesting in her new cubby.

The following kitties went home: Gage, Ladybug and Blues! Happy Forever Home Day to You!

Tanessa told me she walked in on two of our resident kitties, life-long lovers, snuggled up together. It was Raven and Neil. I love the relationships our kitties have with each other.

Congratulations to my granddaughter, Madisyn, for making the cheerleading team at Stanley Lake High.  I love her enthusiasm and her determination.

Please stop by for the Caturday Boutique Sale, Saturday at 11:30. We have some really neat and unique items. All proceeds are for the kitties!!  Thanks Chris for helping with this and for all your hours and hours of volunteering.

If you ever see an animal in need, please, please do not give up until you have found help for it.
Hug your kitties and have a really good weekend!

Kindness to Critters Always,

Kathleen
