Six newborns joined the
family at Almost Home. Mommy kitty had her babies Saturday morning. She had
definitely done this before. Probably several times because once she had the
first kitten she popped them out about every 20-30 minutes. Of course they are
adorable! A healthy weight for a newborn is 3.5 ounces. A couple of her babies
are very tiny. One is critically underweight, weighing only 2.1 ounces. At this
low weight most kittens can’t suckle. The good news is, she is latching on and
sucking as often as her siblings. We need lots of prayers for her to continue
to do well. She’s a calico and there are two more calicos, two black and whites
and one tabby and white. I’m not sure how many are male or female yet except we
know the calicos are always female. Momma was named Edye by one volunteer and Cara
by another. She may have two names!
Our washing machine is still
broken but the part that had to be ordered arrived Friday. The repairman is
scheduled to come Sept. 4th. That seems like years when you have as
much laundry as we have. To keep the rescue clean, we use lots of towels, wash
cloths and we wash many beds everyday. This routine disruption is a reminder of
how much a washer and dryer is appreciated!
Maggie is in a walk-in
suite! Please come visit her. She’s the all-white mommy kitty that was covered
with dirt and flies and badly sunburned ears when she was brought to us. She
had lost all of her teeth and could barely stand from weakness. Her kittens are
ready for adoption and can be found in one of the kitten rooms at the rescue.
Two of her kittens are also white and one white kitten has a green eye and a
blue eye! Maggie, you did an awesome job raising your kids in spite of your
circumstance. I promise you will never
be treated so poorly again.
I groomed Circa and Blackie!
They look marvelous! Gracie got her tummy shaved. At 24 years old she doesn’t
do much grooming. Oh, I also took a little
knot off Reidy Roo’s bottom. First, I had to get her out of the tiny basket
that she was squished in. I love it when the “plump” kitties try to fit in mini
spaces.
Hopefully, I can get Cedar
to the vet today or tomorrow. He is still not well. The wounds on Bebe are
finally healing and Taylor seems to be much better since his dental.
Are you watching the kittens
on the webcam? This is a good laugh to get your day going and a fun afternoon
work break. http://ustre.am/REUt
I’m sending belated get-well
wishes to Pat, a very dedicated volunteer. I’m sorry I didn’t know what you were
going through Pat.
The Catio has some new
“used” flower boxes. I wonder what the kitties are thinking…probably wishing
they could reach them to eat the flowers… even though they’re fake! Thank you
Chris for hanging them!
I’m so happy to see all the
adoption updates on Facebook. Here are a few that have been posted lately: kitten Sam, Whiskers, Peyton, Skitty, River,
Oj now Snacks, Otis now Meatball, Churro and Dr. Pepper, Wilma now Misty,
Orvill now Marco, Blackjack now Hank, Coco and
Juliette. Check out what their new families have to say about them.
I’m off to try to do some
paperwork. I already have four kitties trying to help me and one sleeping on my
lap.
Kindness to Critters Always!
