Wow! First week of September was like a wild roller coaster ride!! But then I guess that is what rescue life is all about. Eight very malnourished kittens came in on Tuesday. Their weight ranged between 4.5 and 8 ounces. This is the normal weight of a newborn to 1-week-old kitten. We know these babies are much older because they had teeth. That tells us they were in desperate need of good nutrition and round-the-clock feedings. They came from Watkins, Colorado. Their mom was tragically killed, leaving an inexperienced caretaker to care for them. She thought if they cried she would feed them otherwise she left them alone. Kittens, like human babies, eat several times a day, in the beginning it’s every two hours.

Times are so different for the little baby animals now because there are many, many rescues willing to help. Please get the infants to the professionals to take care of them. This is the best chance they have of survival without mom. Municipal shelters typically kill kittens under 2 pounds, so be sure it is a no-kill rescue. One of our super-wonderful volunteer foster families took them home. Thank you Jean and Joel!  A follow-up phone call let me know they are all doing well. Joel told me  they get right in the middle of the plates to eat their wet food and then, of course, they track food everywhere! Then its bath time!! Soon it’s time to start this routine all over again.

Many heartfelt thanks for your donations. It helps us tremendously! We have recieved donations from all over the country. Places like Halfmoon Bay, CA, Boscawen, NH, Norfork, VA, Flagstaff, AZ, Bayside, NY, Virginia Beach VABuford, GA, La Cresenta, CA, VanCouver, British Columbia, Canada, Sudbury Ontario, Canada!

Buffalo Exchange – Token for Bags Program

We had eight spay and neuters this week. We heard from the families of Lily and Iris and also Lavendar and Bella. All of them are adjusting well. Bella loves looking out the screen door and Lavendar is rubbing all over everyone! Slim Jim went to a nice home and our sweetie Sam did too. Sam was the kitty that had to have his tail amputated. Our wish for you Sam is you have years and years, pain free! You look so handsome with your stubby little tail! Wednesday, seven more kittens were taken in and are now in foster care with Tiffany. Boy, are they cuties!

Channel 9 came to Almost Home and did a fantastic story about Wyatt. Thank you Channel 9, Dave Delozier, and Tanessa!  The dark days of Wyatt’s life have now been exposed thanks to you. The best part about 9 News doing this story is it went on national news stations. It started conversations. People are talking about ways to avoid this from happening and how incredibly important it is to seek help if you see an animal in danger. Do not give up until you get help! This is a tragedy that could have been avoided.  We have posted the story about Wyatt on our website www.AlmostHomeAdoptions.com.

Happy, happy day!!! Wyatt purred for the first time yesterday! He told me to tell all of you that have sent him prayers and love that he is trying very hard to get well. I can’t wait until the agony of Wyatt’s ordeal is just a faint memory.

“Queen” Bellbee is love-biting my hand as I type and Sugar (one of our blind kitties) is drinking out of my glass of water. Have a blessed day!

Kindness to Critters Always,

Kathleen
